Dreams can come true…..

With a 33 acre parcel of land, generously donated by the late Lorraine Lacharity, located in the village of Kazabazua,a vision to serve the needs of seniors and physically challenged adults in all under-served towns in the Gatineau Valley is born.

Phase 1 of the Gatineau Valley Retirement Village project was completed on May 1, 2019!  Sitting amid the majestic towering pines of the Gatineau Hills, in the heart of Kazabazua, is the first newly constructed building for independent seniors’ living.  Five beautiful 2 bedroom apartments, 960sq feet, of accessible living space designed with active seniors in mind.

This project, the Gatineau Valley Retirement Village/ Village des aînés de la Vallée-de-la-Gatineau, started as an idea around a kitchen table.  A need was identified. There was a lack of housing options in our community for seniors and physically challenged adults who could no longer stay in their current housing situation. Unable to manage, meant moving out of this beloved bilingual community to accessible housing elsewhere.

Thanks to our amazing community and generous individuals, countless volunteer hours, the Municipality of Kazabazua, and the MRC de la Vallée de la Gatineau, the Low & District Lions Club, the Caisse Desjardins de Gracefield, Denis Paquette Construction, and so many others, 5 area seniors happily moved in to their new homes on May 1, 2019.

But we are not done yet!!  Future phases of this project envision a safe, active “village” for our area`s elders,  within the community they helped establish.  A bilingual housing community, keeping in mind the well-being, respect, support and safety needs of our elders. The future vision includes 1 bedroom independent living apartments, assisted living apartments (meals/call bell support), and hopefully, with the support of provincial health services, care for an individual can be available until one’s final hour.  Dream big!  All things are possible with your help!!!
